Ref: Caliber 83
In 1868, American engineer and watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones founded the International Watch Company with the intention of combining Swiss craftsmanship with the modern engineering technology from the U.S. When Johannes Rauschenbach-Schenk died, Schaffhausen industrialist Ernst Jakob Homberger took over the management of the company.
The years following the war are marked by an ever greater use of technology in everyday life. A growing number of devices are therefore creating magnetic fields that can affect the precision of mechanical watches. It was during this time that Albert Pellaton became Technical Director at IWC Schaffhausen. Among his inventions, let us quote extremely precise calibers 83 and 89, with internal case in soft iron which protects the movements of the watch against the magnetic fields.
